A man has been convicted of a serious assault in Bath earlier this year.

On Sunday April 7, 2013 a 24-year-old man was stabbed in Gay Street and left with serious injuries. He was taken to the Royal United Hospital and following surgery was discharged from hospital. 

Nathan Dixon was arrested that morning and taken into custody and subsequently charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. 

He was convicted by a jury at Bristol Crown Court of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He will be sentenced on September 10 and was remanded in custody until then. 

A second man who also stood trial was found not guilty by the jury. 

Speaking after court, Detective Inspector Julie Mackay said: "This was a serious assault which left a man in hospital and part of the city centre cordoned off. The initial response to this incident was fast and effective and we were able to quickly protect the scene and arrest the suspects to ensure we preserved as much evidence as possible. 

"We also worked hard to support the witnesses and ensure they felt confident working with us on what they saw. Some of those were also required to give their testimony at court and I would like to thank those people and everyone who supported our investigation. 

"Today Nathan Dixon has been held to account for his actions and is facing a lengthy prison sentence. This demonstrates the vigour with which we will tackle knife crime to ensure people across Avon and Somerset are safe and feel safe."
